The starting point.

The first concept brief kept the existing floor, walls, doors, windows, wood trim and ceiling fixture as constraints, while allowing new movable furniture, curtains, lamps, art and objects. These three directions compare how the same older room might feel with different combinations.

CONCEPT DIRECTION 01

Grounded tones. Lighter silhouettes.

Black seating and warm wood make a deliberate connection to the room's dark floor border and wood frames. A glass table and bentwood reading chair keep the main group visually varied.

Proposed black and walnut living room concept with black leather sofa, glass table and wood chair around terrazzo and wood trim.
Concept direction 01 · Proposed design.
  • Dark upholstery repeats the existing floor border, making that line part of the composition.
  • Warm wood at the furniture relates to the window and door trim without needing identical wood grain.
  • Glass, a curved reading chair and a paper lamp introduce lighter shapes beside the heavier sofa.

CONCEPT DIRECTION 02

A softer, greener gathering place.

An olive sofa and cream chair introduce a quieter palette, while plants and amber lamps add warmth and variation. The room's gray floor becomes a background for softer fabrics and green tones.

Proposed olive and cream concept with green sofa, pale chair, plants and amber lamps in an older terrazzo-floor living room.
Concept direction 02 · Proposed design.
  • The olive sofa introduces a larger color area that sits comfortably beside warm wood trim.
  • Cream upholstery and lighter textiles give the deeper green a quieter companion.
  • Plants and amber table lamps distribute smaller warm and green accents across the room.

CONCEPT DIRECTION 03

Color with a clear point of view.

Burgundy upholstery makes the main seating group warmer and more expressive. Cobalt accents and a glass-and-chrome table add a contrasting language beside the older wood frames.

Proposed burgundy and cobalt direction with red sofa, blue chair and side table, glass and chrome furniture and older wood trim.
Concept direction 03 · Proposed design.
  • The burgundy sofa adds a warm focal area against the neutral terrazzo floor.
  • Cobalt at the chair and side table repeats one contrasting color instead of scattering unrelated accents.
  • Chrome and glass offer a different texture beside the existing wood details.
